Also, you can click on the Game Preferences clubface button on any interface screen to bring up the same menus. The Game Preferences are divided into five tabs: Display, General, Grid, Network and Advanced.

General

"Jack Tips": Click here to enable Jack Tip Comments. With this feature enabled, Jack Nicklaus' tips will pop up in certain places on the golf course. When a tip is available, the Tip from Jack button will appear on the screen. Click the Tip from Jack button to play the tip. Choose to show all tips, repeat a tip, or mark a tip to not play again.

Play Hole Fly-by Cinemas: Click here to play the Jack Nicklaus narrated hole introductions.

Grid

Grid Size: Here you can choose the size of your putting grid. Select a pre-determined size, select Smart to have the computer size the grid for you, or select Custom to set your own grid size. When selecting Custom, you can adjust the width and length settings (measured as feet).

Grid Display: Click Show Grid Lines to display the yellow grid lines and click Show Grid Rug to display the red/blue colored rug gauge. Click Pseudo Color Lines According to Height Map to display grid lines that are colored red/blue instead of yellow. NOTE: You may adjust your RGB Constant Line Color values, but do so at your own risk.

Height Map Pseudo Coloring: Use this setting to adjust the red/blue color scheme on your grid. With an Adaptive setting, the coloring will be dependent on terrain variations. With this setting, the brightest red will indicate the highest elevation point on your current grid, and the brightest blue will indicate the lowest elevation on your current grid. Choose +/- 4,10 or 20 inches to set that height as the minimum/maximum for your grid (example: by choosing +/- 10 inches, the brightest red will be shown on the grid wherever it is higher than 10 inches; and the brightest blue will be shown on the grid wherever it is lower than 10 inches). Choose Custom and select your own custom range (in inches) if none of the current settings are to your liking.

Show Grid Automatically When on the Green: Click here to have the grid show up automatically on the green.

Network

Speed Golf: To use Speed Golf, make sure to enable "Ready Golf" when you set up your game. With Speed Golf, you will not need to watch other player's shots. At the end of each hole, you will need to wait for other players to finish the hole before moving to the last hole.

Another way to control the game camera is to move it yourself. On the Overhead map, simply click on the camera icon and hold down the mouse button. Now move the camera to any position on the golf course. When you release the mouse button, the screen will change to the new selected view.

Adding Courses

If you go to the Main Menu and click on Internet Links, your browser will take you directly to a website where you can check for game updates and may find courses designed by Golden Bear Challenge players from all over the world. If you search the Internet, you will also find other sites where many player-designed golf courses can be found.

Once you have downloaded a golf course to your computer, place the golf course or a short cut to that golf course in the Courses folder. It will be necessary to convert it so that it may be played in Jack Nicklaus 6 (to read on how to convert a course go to Converting Jack Nicklaus 5 Courses). (Alternatively, you can place a shortcut or a directory that holds your courses into the courses folder. The Courses folder can be found in the Data folder, which will be located in the Golden Bear Challenge folder wherever you installed the game. By placing a shortcut rather than the actual golf course in your Courses folder, you can keep your courses on a different hard drive or on a JAZ drive for convenience.
